Ecologic renovation and Local Economy

We have at heart to commit ourselves, for a healthy renovation and a local economy... We explain to you...

Energy renovation: Renovating the house was an opportunity to rethink our lifestyle, which until then had tended to be urban. The experience of living in Belgium, which is very modern in its management of resources, shows us that today we need to consume differently, more simply and responsibly... We are 43 and 48 years old, with 3 children, committed and enterprising, willing to save a magnificent heritage...

Our "energy renovation" mission: to use and reorganize the property's natural resources so that it can be self-sufficient without excessive energy consumption. Rebuilt in the 16th century, we began restoring the buildings in 2019:

- Water: The wells serve all outdoor management, flowers, orchard and vegetable garden, animals... All the house's washing machines and toilets come directly from the wells.

- Heating: the wood from the park (only the trees on the ground, we don't cut on the ground yet) is cut throughout the year, then chipped 2 times a year, and the wood-fired boiler heats the whole house...

- Electricity: solar panels coming soon... our "big project" for 2024...

The vegetable garden and the animals are also very important elements, which we are integrating as we go along. The house has the logistical capacity to produce with its orchard, vegetable garden and animals.

The greenhouse produces some seasonal vegetables... help yourself ;-) The greenhouse's little extra: the engineers of the time had thought of everything. A Canadian well installed a few meters away fetches water from deep underground (18° - 20°) and feeds (thanks to an old-fashioned pump) the heating pipes installed in the greenhouse. And, hey presto, you can cultivate a little in winter ;-)

Local and circular Economy

Local economy: Why consuming elsewhere when everything is so good right next door?

With this conviction in mind, we've worked with our cooks, local producers and breeders to create homemade local menus...

You'll taste meat raised just a few kilometers away, dairy products from the farm next door, vegetables from our kitchen garden or from the local farm, goat's milk cheeses made 3km away...

Circular economy, of course. We wouldn't have done it without reusing, transforming... With us, everything is transformed and given a new life ;-)

Every year is a source of reflection for a new challenge. This year, a new organic breeder a few kilometers away for beef, and a reorganization of our kitchen garden, for even more vegetables and fruit ;-)
